Crafting a vibrant apocalypse

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of ZomWick, a unique strategic tower-defense game where artistry meets gameplay. As the Art Director and Lead Game Designer at Cookie Koala Studio, I played an instrumental role in crafting the immersive narrative and challenging game mechanics.

The game demo above showcases the intricate gameplay and vibrant world we’ve built, rich with complex hybrid characters and a story teetering on the brink of apocalypse. Each aspect of ZomWick’s aesthetic – from character designs, environmental elements, color palettes, to camera movements – was a result of deliberate artistic choices that I directed.

The 15-second reel, inspired by Wes Anderson’s signature style and following a popular TikTok meme trend, encapsulates the whimsical spirit of ZomWick. This creation was part of my extensive duties, including advertising and branding for the game.

Even minute aspects like capsule designs for Steam were under my purview, creating visual snippets that effectively communicate the essence of our game to potential players.

In addition, I spearheaded our social media management on Instagram, fostering a robust community of enthusiasts and keeping them engaged with regular updates about the game.

My leadership extended beyond the artistic realm. I organized and executed effective workflows using tools like Trello, facilitated workshops, and led a cohesive team through the project’s various stages.

The journey began with an initial prototype, created in collaboration with our lead programmer. Our effective synergy and my proactive role in the project led my team to entrust me with the team leadership role, a testament to my ability to harmonize creativity and management.

The recent demo represents the culmination of our diligent work and artistic vision. It’s a testament to what we’ve achieved as a team, and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished.

Throughout the past year, I’ve ventured into various design disciplines, refining a diverse skill set and gaining a broad understanding of different design facets. Now, as I continue my journey in the gaming industry, I aim to specialize and advance in my role as an Art Director. I eagerly look forward to opportunities where I can further apply my artistry, storytelling prowess, and leadership skills, creating immersive and engaging experiences in the realm I feel most at home.
