About Planet Earth
An Animated Tale of Humanity & Nature
„About Planet Earth“ is an abstract, narrative-driven exploration that blurs the line between visuals and storytelling, rooted in profound symbolism. This project springs from an ancient Shaman-Tatar conspiracy theory, serving as a critique of our resource-draining practices and the relentless march of capitalism.
At the heart of the narrative is a lonely giant, a dual symbol representing Earth and its human custodians. As the tale unfolds, the creatures‘ initial gratitude devolves into exploitation, reflecting our own strained relationship with our planet. This cyclical narrative underscores the potential destruction that human exploitation can inflict on Earth’s resources.
In my capacity as a designer, I endeavored to create more than visually appealing content. My intent was to craft a compelling story that resonates with viewers, prompts introspection about their environmental impact, and incites change. However, the story’s heavy symbolism and visually-driven storytelling leave much room for interpretation, inviting viewers to project their understanding and experience onto the narrative.
The visual execution was an integral part of this project. I purposefully chose a rough, abstract style. This choice not only aided in expediting the animation process, making the entire project feasible but also enhanced the metaphorical narrative and added atmospheric aesthetics to the piece. The visuals thus amplified the story, reinforcing its underlying themes and bringing to life the looming concerns it represents.
The final piece, „About Planet Earth“, stands as a cautionary fable, a thought-provoking amalgamation of engaging narrative and evocative design. This project is a testament to my creative process, wherein research, ideation, visual development, and narrative construction converge to create a piece at the intersection of design and storytelling.
